Cyclone and Thermal Shelters

Concrete refuges have been built in Bangladesh after disastrous floods killed 500,000 in 2000.

Warm air can carry more water vapour, so that rain can be heavier and more prolonged, causing extreme flooding. In the UK there is 4% more water vapour in the air than in the 1970's.

Thermal shelters have been built in France where nearly 15,000 people died in the 2003 heat wave, whilst, on February 6th 2012, heavy snow brought many parts of Italy to a stand-still.
